About the school
The German-Jordanian University (GJU) is a public university located in Mushaqar. It was founded in 2005 by a Royal Decree, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding reached between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany. In August 2004, a founding committee began up its activities in Jordan. The committee was in close cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. At the same time, the German planning office opened at the University of Magdeburg-Stendal in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF and the German Academic Exchange Services DAAD, which funded the university project for a period of four years.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the category "German Study Programmes Abroad".
The laying of the corner stone took place on April 25th, 2005 under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II and in the presence of Her Excellency Ms. Edelgard Bulmahn, the German Federal Minister of Education and Research; His Excellency Dr. Khaled Touqan, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Jordan at the time; His Excellency Professor Jan-Hendrik Olbertz, the Minister of Cultural Affairs of Saxony-Anhalt; the DAAD Vice President, Professor Max Huber; and many other notables.
The University was modelledon the German applied-sciences model, characterized by their focus on putting knowledge into practice and on promoting knowledge transfer. We aim to play a significant role in promoting links between Jordan and Europe, particularly Germany. By taking advantage of the best educational practices in both Jordan and Germany, the University has positioned itself as a leader in its field.

A Word from the President
The German-Jordanian University is a unique university in Jordan that follows the German Fachhochschule model of education. In that, via its structured courses that go hand-in-hand with practical relevance and enhanced embedded training, the university is to produce highly skilled and well-trained cadres and professionals. Subsequently, our graduates will possess the knowledge needed for them to compete for future careers and will, at the same time, be in a position to contribute effectively and efficiently to their country's comprehensive economic and social development. Moreover, the university is keen to serve as a center for the incubation of a multicultural society whereby, international and multinational cultural relations, tolerance, dialogue, rapprochement and mutual understanding are fostered in an environment of open-mindedness, respect for others opinions and appreciation of their differences. The university has established close ties with over 60 German partner universities.
The partner universities host GJU students for one full year. This exposes students to a wide range of scholars, researchers and practitioners from other universities and industries. Since its inception in 2005, the German-Jordanian University has positioned itself as a leader. It has demonstrated a potential in industrial partnership with national and international enterprises. These partnerships will enable the university to offer nontraditional programs with strong theoretical and practical orientation focusing on regional needs for industrialization and technological advancement. As you join our educational community, I invite you not only to work for a degree, but also to ponder the deeper meaning of your presence here. The German-Jordanian University pledges to provide you with quality instruction second to none. Myself, the staff and the faculty are looking forward to seeing you among us and assisting you in fulfilling your educational and personal goals.
