Welcome to Luminus University Technical College

Luminus Technical University College (LTUC) is a member of Luminus Education and originally established under the name of Al Quds College (AQC). The formal license for LTUC was granted in 2017 and LTUC now offers four year certified Batchelor university degrees in a range of demand driven fields, ensuring graduates are able to gain meaningful employment at the end of their study period. From October 2018, LTUC will offer BA degrees in:

· Hotel, Restaurant and Event Management

· Digital Film Making

· Digital Media Design

· Dental Technology


 

History

Following the founder and current CEO’s own frustrating university experience, he persuaded his family to buy-out AQC in 1999, the College grew from 200 students to 2500 in 2004 under the new leadership. The strategy was to offer unique programmes based on identified market needs & acquiring franchising rights such as for SAE institute to establish the first Creative Media School in the MENA region.

In 2008, Manaseer Group invested in Luminus Education allowing it to establish new state of the art facilities, scale up its growth & strengthen its programmes. In 2011, Luminus expanded into vocational training for the Oil & Gas sector in Iraq & Libya, through the setup of a new venture: Al Majal Training. In addition, a partnership with IFC was established to incorporate ‘education4employmen’t programmes into the curricula. In 2014, IFC & SwiCorp invested US $18 million in Luminus Education, becoming equity partners.

Milestones for 2016 and 2017 include:

· Establishment of a campus in Irbid

· Development the first Fab Lab & Business Incubator in Jordan – ShamalStart - a partnership with EU to support entrepreneurs in the north of Jordan

· Scholarship funds for 3000 Syrian Refugee & vulnerable Jordanian Students

· Establishment of Luminus Foundation to provide

o training for individuals and institutions in marginalized areas and poor communities to build capacities and improve economic and social conditions

o Community engagement - social and development training and awareness

· Implementation of an Employment Hub to connect the world of education to industry and find employment for the students

· Commence implementation of world class campus and student management systems

· A joint venture agreement with Laval Academy of Beauty Sciences to strengthen programmes in this sector

Results

Since 1999 until now, Luminus has graduated about 40,000 students from 23 countries. Today, more than 3000 students graduate per year of which 40% are female and 80% of these graduates find a job.

Supporting the Government of Jordan and the Donor community in their efforts to meet the challenges posed by the Syrian Crisis has been a key pillar of LTUC’s strategy. LTUC has been successful in securing over 7000 scholarship opportunities for the period 2014 – 2020 for refugees and vulnerable youth, with nearly 5500 linked to guaranteed employment.

Methodology

LTUC approach is education-for employment for all graduates. Consequently, there is on-going research into market demand and a systematic approach to recruitment, programme development and work placement. A dedicated Employment hub team are responsible for liaising with employers to identify skills required and job opportunities and feeding this information back to department. Outreach and recruitment is a rigorous multi-step process that is informed by employers, supported by a dedicated call centre and CRM system and includes career guidance, interviews and assessments to ensure students placed on the right programmes.

On completion of programmes, the Employment Hub are responsible for find jobs and supporting transition to the work place through coaching and mentoring during the initial employment period.

CSR

Luminus Education has a strong CSR commitment and to further activities in this domain, LMNS for Social Development (LMNS) was set up in 2017. LMNS, in close cooperation with LTUC, provides:

a) training for individuals and institutions in marginalized areas and poor communities to build capacities and improve economic and social conditions and

b) social and continued development training and awareness with community engagement.
